Global military spending reached a record level of nearly $2.9 trillion in 2025, according to a report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, cited by CNN. This amount represents a 2.9% increase compared to the previous year and accounts for 2.5% of global GDP, the highest level since 2009. The largest increases were recorded in Europe, where spending rose by 14% to $864 billion, and in Asia, with an increase of 8.1% to $681 billion. NATO countries significantly increased their defense budgets, with Poland and Spain reporting increases of 23% and 50%, respectively. Romania allocated $9.7 billion for defense, an increase of 5.9% compared to 2024. The United States remains the world leader, with spending of $954 billion, followed by China and Russia. The increase is driven by regional tensions and geopolitical uncertainties, and experts estimate that this trend will continue in the coming years.
