In an intervention at Digi24, Florin Manole, the Minister of Labor, discussed the possible increase of the minimum wage, emphasizing that it would have a limited impact on salary expenses in the public sector.
"Salary increases for teachers, if you remember, between the transition from the Ciucă Government to the Ciolacu Government, the salary increase for teachers was done uncorrelated with the minimum wage, but rather at a percentage negotiated by the unions and the parties in the coalition at that time. Therefore, the increase in the minimum wage would have a favorable impact first and foremost, about 90 something percent, for workers in the private sector. For those workers who, beyond correct calculations, I do not deny, regarding the potential impact on the economy, those workers need to go home with a decent remuneration that allows them from food, to raising their own children, rent, and any other expense that any person in this country has, as inflation increases," said Florin Manole, Tuesday evening, at Digi 24.
