The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has decided to fine Moody's Deutschland GmbH €2.145 million for four violations of the European regulation regarding rating agencies. This decision was adopted by the ESMA Board of Supervisors and focuses on the deficiencies in reporting data to the authority, which are essential for the transparency of financial markets and the protection of investors. Moody's Germany did not provide complete and accurate information, thus affecting the authority's ability to identify risks.

Although the errors did not influence the published ratings, the case highlights the importance of the responsibility of institutions in maintaining trust in the markets. ESMA identified deficiencies in Moody's internal reporting framework, and the sanction reflects the seriousness of the negligence. ESMA Chair Verena Ross emphasized that quality reporting is crucial for detecting risks and the transparency of financial markets in the EU, underscoring the responsibility of rating agencies in ensuring high standards of control and accuracy.
