A Turkish oil tanker, Altura, was attacked by a drone in the Black Sea, near Istanbul, causing significant damage.
The vessel, which was carrying 140,000 tons of crude oil from the Russian port of Novorossiysk, was struck by an aerial drone and an unmanned naval vehicle, approximately 15 nautical miles from the Bosphorus Strait.
The crew issued a distress call, and the ship Erdek intervened for assistance. Although the engine room was taking on water, no casualties were reported.
The tanker is under European Union sanctions and is part of the so-called 'phantom fleet'. Its history includes multiple ownership changes and international sanctions, having links to individuals involved in controversial activities.
