The number of tourist arrivals decreased by 4.1% in the first six months of 2026, while the number of overnight stays decreased by 6.7%. Germany, Italy, and the USA were the main countries of origin for foreign tourists.

Arrivals of tourists in tourist reception structures recorded a decrease of 4.1% in the first six months of 2026, reaching 5,556.5 thousand people, while overnight stays decreased by 6.7%, down to 10,804.1 thousand.

Romanian tourists represented 78.6% of arrivals, while foreign tourists accounted for 21.4%.

In June 2026, arrivals were 1,269.4 thousand, and overnight stays were 2,675.6 thousand, with a decrease of 2.5% and 5.7% respectively compared to the previous year.

The average length of stay was 2.1 days for Romanians and 2.0 days for foreigners.

The majority of arrivals of foreign tourists came from Germany (114.8 thousand), Italy (105.7 thousand), and the USA (78.8 thousand).

The net occupancy rate of accommodation places was 22.8% in the first six months, a decrease of 2.9 percentage points compared to the previous year.

The most popular destinations were Bucharest, Brașov, and Constanța.
