The production of automobiles in Romania is in a sharp decline, and if the trend from the first half of the year continues, the industry could drop below 500,000 vehicles produced in 2026, marking the first time since 2022 that this threshold is not reached.

ACAROM data shows that in 2023 total production could reach approximately 480,000 vehicles, with significant decreases at Dacia and Ford Otosan. In the first six months, Dacia produced 129,514 vehicles, down 17.6%, while Ford Otosan produced 118,568, 6.6% less. In June, total production decreased by 16%.

After a record of 565,550 automobiles in 2024, production has entered a downward trend, and Dacia's director, Mihai Bordeanu, acknowledges the current market difficulties, estimating a production of a maximum of 300,000 automobiles this year. He emphasizes that, although there are models with potential, market conditions do not provide sufficient signals for a recovery.
