In the first five months of 2025, the budget deficit increased to 64.23 billion lei, despite an increase in total revenues by 13.6%.

The execution of the consolidated general budget in the first five months of 2025 recorded a deficit of RON 64.23 billion, slightly lower than in the same period of 2024. Total revenues increased by 13.6% to RON 256 billion, thanks to the advance in payroll taxes and income from European funds. Budgetary expenditure increased by 12.2% to RON 320.23 billion, influenced by higher social and personnel spending. Spending on social assistance increased significantly, in the context of recalculation of pensions and compensation of energy bills.
