A group of wealthy Britons, including former footballer Gary Lineker and music producer Brian Eno, has urged Prime Minister Andy Burnham to impose higher taxes on the rich.

In an open letter signed by 120 millionaires, they emphasize that they are not asking for higher taxes on those who work daily, but for those whose income comes from wealth. The initiative, launched by the group 'Patriotic Millionaires', aims for a 2% tax on fortunes over 10 million pounds, arguing that such a measure would lead to a fairer society.

They also argue that the current tax system is too generous to the wealthy and that a redistribution of wealth is necessary. The new Prime Minister Burnham has not ruled out the possibility of a wealth tax, and opposition leader Kemi Badenoch stated that Lineker can pay more taxes anytime.

This request comes against the backdrop of previous campaigns for higher taxation of wealth.
