The BNS requested President Nicușor Dan to convene a debate in the Supreme Council of National Defense (CSAT) to analyze Romania's energy security, following the decision to purchase natural gas from OMV Petrom, based on the right of preemption in the Neptun Deep perimeter.
Law No. 171/2026 provides for the purchase of 49.9 million MWh of gas at a price of 48.752 euros/MWh, which could affect the state budget and energy prices, according to an open letter sent to the head of state.
The BNS emphasizes that this decision could generate losses for the state if the market price is lower, and will lead to significant increases in bills for consumers.
The BNS requests detailed analyses on the impact of this decision on consumers, the budget, and the economy.
