A truck registered in Romania destroyed an arch of the El Cobre aqueduct in Algeciras, Spain, a historical monument from 1783.

The accident occurred on Thursday morning, without causing any victims, but it led to the destruction of a part of the emblematic structure. The Local Police intervened to check the vehicle's insurance and the driver's fitness. Experts in urban planning and culture were sent to assess the damages, considering that the aqueduct is protected as a Grade II monument. Mayor José Ignacio Landaluce promised a swift restoration of the structure and stated that the authorities would take measures to recover the repair costs from those responsible. The El Cobre aqueduct, part of the infrastructure known as the Algeciras Aqueduct, was built to ensure the water supply of the city and has suffered damage in the past, in the 1980s.
