In total, he obtained 29,000 euros, including 4,000 stolen directly from her bag. The wife reported years of physical abuse, and the court decided that the evidence of violence is clear. The man was sentenced to 11 years in prison and ordered to pay damages. His reaction was one of surprise at the sentence. The case attracted the attention of the Austrian press due to the severity of the crimes.
