A Romanian has been sentenced to expulsion from Switzerland for five years after assaulting a fellow countryman at a party.

A 46-year-old Romanian was sentenced by the Wil District Court in Switzerland for attempted serious bodily harm and participation in a brawl, following a violent incident that occurred in February 2022. Although prosecutors requested a sentence of 32 months, the court decided on a nine-month sentence, suspended for a probation period of two years, and imposed his expulsion from Switzerland for five years.

The Romanian was ordered to pay the victim 5,000 Swiss francs in compensation and court costs of 25,190 francs. The incident took place at a party where all participants had consumed alcohol, and the aggressor had a blood alcohol level of 2.99 per thousand. His lawyer announced the intention to appeal the decision, which could prolong the process until 2030 or 2031.
