A fraud scheme was discovered in Italy, where an official created 59 fictitious Romanian 'mothers' using artificial intelligence to defraud the Italian state. These non-existent women, each having 5 or 6 invented children, were used to illegally obtain approximately 1.4 million euros from the universal single allowance.

The fraud was uncovered by the Guardia di Finanza, following a report from INPS. The official generated fictitious residences and false identity cards, and the applications for allowances were submitted by an employee of a tax assistance center.

The money, averaging 2,300 euros per 'family', was withdrawn by accomplices from ATMs. The investigation continues, and the assets of two individuals have been provisionally seized.
