Anti-immigrant violence erupted in Belfast, Northern Ireland, on June 9, 2026, causing the vandalization of the homes of three Romanian families. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), through the General Consulate of Romania in Edinburgh, confirmed that the affected families are safe and wish to return to Romania as soon as possible.

The MFA is taking steps to identify the affected individuals and provide them with consular assistance. So far, no Romanian victims have been reported as a result of the violence.

The protests in Belfast escalated after the arrest of an immigrant man accused of a stabbing attack, leading to the burning of homes and vehicles. The MFA advises Romanian citizens in Northern Ireland to avoid high-risk areas and to follow the instructions of local police. The consulate remains in contact with local authorities and the Romanian community to monitor the situation's developments.
