According to the EFFIS analysis, vegetation fires in 2025 resulted in the destruction of 1,015,731 hectares in the European Union, the highest number since 2006. Spain is the worst affected with more than 400,000 hectares burned, followed by Portugal with almost 274,000 hectares. Romania is in third place with 126 000 hectares destroyed. These fires have had a devastating impact, claiming several lives.
