The President of the National Assembly of Venezuela, Jorge Rodriguez, announced that the country has received over 1,550 requests under the new amnesty law, recently adopted by the legislature controlled by the ruling party. Rodriguez mentioned that hundreds of prisoners are currently being released, however, human rights organizations argue that the law does not provide sufficient relief for the hundreds of political prisoners in the country.

The interim president, Delcy Rodriguez, has yielded to the demands of the Trump administration and released several individuals considered political prisoners. Venezuela denies the existence of political prisoners, claiming that they have committed crimes. Additionally, opposition politician Juan Pablo Guanipa has benefited from the lifting of the house arrest order.
