The law in Romania requires event organizers to pay a fee for holding events near historical monuments, with the money being used for the protection and restoration of old buildings. The Untold Festival, which takes place at Cluj Arena, located in Central Park in Cluj-Napoca, must pay approximately 2% of the value of tickets sold annually, considering that the entire park is a historical monument complex. For the 2024 edition, ticket sales exceeded 38 million lei, which means a debt of nearly 770,000 lei.

The state has resorted to the courts to recover the debts, and Untold has already paid 1.69 million lei for previous editions. The National Institute of Heritage has requested the blocking of the festival's accounts to ensure the recovery of debts, although the debt from 2017 has been prescribed. The organizers contest the legality of the fee, arguing that the law does not clearly define the boundaries of the historical monument and that they invest considerable amounts in the rehabilitation of the park after each edition of the festival.
