Nuclearelectrica announced that Unit 2 of the Cernavodă NPP was automatically disconnected from the grid on May 4, 2026, due to a malfunction in an electrical separator in the conventional part of the unit.

According to the statement sent to the Stock Exchange, the disconnection was carried out under safety conditions, with all systems of the unit operating as designed. Nuclearelectrica emphasized that this disconnection does not affect the nuclear safety of the reactor, personnel, the population, or the surrounding environment. After the disconnection, energy production in hydroelectric plants increased rapidly, now accounting for more than half of the national production, followed by coal and gas plants.

Nuclearelectrica will issue a statement upon the reconnection of Unit 2 to the National Energy System.
