After the 2026 edition in Vienna, affected by boycotts and protests, the future of the Eurovision contest in 2027, which will take place in Bulgaria, is uncertain. Israel's participation, in the context of the conflict in Gaza, has generated controversy. Ireland was the first country to announce that it will not participate, with RTÉ's director general, Kevin Bakhurst, emphasizing that there are no reasons to change the decision, considering the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

The Kingdom of the Netherlands has suspended any decision regarding participation, awaiting an official assessment from the European Broadcasting Union. Iceland, Spain, and Slovenia have not yet made a statement, but they have taken firm positions against Israel's participation. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez stated that his country aligns with human rights values by refusing to participate. Belgium has confirmed its participation, but it remains to be seen how the other countries will react.
