Two Ukrainian citizens were rescued following a nighttime mission carried out in the Maramureș Mountains, in the Repedea – Vârful Mic area. The intervention was requested after several Ukrainians informed the Border Police that they had found a man with medical problems who was unable to move.
Salvamont Maramureș began searching the indicated area, but the information provided by those who had requested help did not allow the man to be located immediately. The rescuers expanded their search downstream, along a nearby stream.
The 26-year-old man was found approximately one kilometer from the initially indicated location, inside a deteriorated former forestry wagon abandoned in the forest. He was exhausted and showed signs of mild hypothermia. The rescuers gave him hot tea and sheltered him in the intervention vehicle to warm up, then handed him over to the border police officers from Poienile de sub Munte.
On the way back, the Salvamont team rescued a second Ukrainian citizen, who was also taken into the custody of the Border Police. Salvamont Maramureș stated that the mission took place under difficult conditions, at night.
