The Romanian Television (TVR) has come to the defense of the song 'Choke Me', performed by Alexandra Căpitănescu, who will represent Romania at Eurovision, after it sparked international controversy.

TVR stated that the title of the song is a metaphor and that the artistic message will be explained by the artist during the performance in Vienna. Additionally, the television emphasizes its commitment to artistic freedom and the values of the European Broadcasting Union. The song has drawn severe criticism, especially from the United Kingdom, where laws have been proposed against materials that promote strangulation. The lyrics, considered provocative, have generated online calls for the disqualification of the song. Căpitănescu argued that art should not be censored, and the imagery in the lyrics reflects intense emotions. The EBU has not yet commented on this issue, and the controversy continues to capture the attention of Eurovision fans.
