A truck loaded with hundreds of sheep overturned on county road 226, near Năvodari, resulting in the death of 160 animals. The truck was transporting the sheep to the Midia port for export. The National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) announced that the deceased animals will be neutralized, and the 128 surviving sheep will be evaluated for health and veterinary conditions on the farm.
Representatives of the Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Directorate (DSVSA) intervened quickly to limit the effects of the accident. Additionally, sheep meat exports from Romania are affected by the conflict in the Middle East, blocking transport routes to Arab countries. Romania exports approximately 100,000 lambs annually, and farmers from the counties of Botoșani and Alba significantly contribute to these deliveries. The war in the region has led to considerable losses for producers and importers, affecting the demand for sheep meat during traditional holidays.
