Tourism operators in Romania are calling for the sector to be managed by a dedicated ministry or a National Authority for Tourism, considering the significant decrease in the number of Romanian tourists, which recorded a contraction of 12% in the last month.

The Vice President of the National Association of Travel Agencies (ANAT), Adrian Voican, emphasized the need to redirect 10% of the savings generated by reducing vacation vouchers back into tourism, to support revitalization programs. Additionally, there are calls for an increase in the tourism promotion budget and the urgent implementation of the Tourist Guarantee Fund Law, which would protect consumers from the risks of agencies in insolvency.

In 2026, a shift in tourist preferences is anticipated, with a focus on ecotourism and experiences in nature.
