A tornado was captured in the commune of Râciu in Mureș County during a storm, by a local resident who filmed the phenomenon. Fortunately, people took shelter in their homes, and the event did not cause any damage.
The tornado appeared in the context of a Yellow Alert issued by the National Meteorological Administration (ANM) for the period from April 20, 9:00 PM to April 22, 9:00 PM, which particularly targeted the mountainous area and announced mixed precipitation, predominantly snowfall at high altitudes.
The meteorological phenomenon was associated with a small-depth mesocyclone capable of generating significant rotation in the atmosphere. Vorticity was locally enhanced, likely due to the interaction of unstable air masses with the terrain of the Eastern Carpathians. The tornado, although short-lived, underscores the potential of these severe phenomena to occur in areas that are less frequently affected.
