Three men aged between 28 and 31 are being investigated by DIICOT prosecutors and Timișoara police officers for high-risk drug trafficking, after allegedly selling or possessing prohibited substances. Investigators discovered approximately 1.3 kilograms of 4-CMC, which they claim was to be sold for 40,000 lei.
4-CMC (4-chloromethcathinone, also known as clephedrone) is an extremely dangerous synthetic stimulant in the cathinone class, legally classified in Romania as a high-risk drug. It belongs to the category of new psychoactive substances (commonly known by the generic name “crystal”) and is a chemical analogue of mephedrone.
According to the investigation, between August and October, the 28-year-old man allegedly sold crystalline substances, including Eutylone and alpha-Ethylaminopentiophenone, for amounts ranging between 2,500 and 4,200 lei. On October 27, he and a 31-year-old man were caught red-handed in the town of Florești, Cluj County, while allegedly attempting to sell the quantity of 4-CMC.
That same day, police conducted five home searches. An additional approximately 280 grams of 4-CMC and 70 grams of N-ethylnorpentedrone were found. Some of the substances were located in the home of a 29-year-old man, who was already under house arrest in another case. Prosecutors claim that the drugs were intended for sale. The three men were detained, and DIICOT asked the Timiș Tribunal to place them in pretrial detention for 30 days. The evidence and charges will be examined during the judicial proceedings.
