Residents of northern Tulcea County received a new RO-Alert message on Wednesday, at around 5:39 p.m., warning of a possible drone incursion. It was the third message sent in approximately 12 hours, amid military activity near Romania’s border with Ukraine.
In the extreme alert, authorities urged people to remain calm and take shelter in civil-defense shelters or inside their homes, away from windows and exterior walls. In the absence of a shelter, residents were advised to stay indoors and avoid exposed areas.
The message was sent by the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations following a notification from the National Military Command Center of the Ministry of National Defence. Earlier that same morning, northern Tulcea County had been subject to two extreme alerts, with a combined duration of approximately two hours and 21 minutes.
The new development was that, during the second alarm, a drone briefly operated in national airspace near the town of Sulina, over the Black Sea. According to the Ministry of National Defence, the aircraft subsequently entered Ukrainian airspace, where it was shot down. Since the previous month, authorities have also been sending messages announcing the end of alerts, with the duration of warnings varying.
