The Vaslui Tribunal decided on Wednesday to award moral damages amounting to 400,000 euros to the parents and four other relatives of a 4-year-old girl who died in 2014 after being improperly treated at the Huși Municipal Hospital.
The court's decision comes after, in the first instance, the Huși Court had established damages of 240,000 euros. The amount will be paid by the responsible pediatrician and the hospital. The girl died after being administered an antibiotic without prior testing, and the hospital claimed that the death was caused by a rapid progression of the disease. Although criminal investigations were conducted, no criminal liability was found. The Ministry of Health imposed fines for irregularities in managing the case, and the doctor received sanctions but continued to practice. The family decided to take legal action for moral damages.
