The Mayor of the Capital, Ciprian Ciucu, announced the approval, within the General Council of the Municipality of Bucharest, of the project to update rents for 'affordable' housing, which have not been modified for approximately 20 years.
The project provides for an increase in the base rate to 8 lei/sqm, with different coefficients depending on the area, and low-income individuals will benefit from social protection. The amendments proposed by the mayor include protection for those who meet the criteria for social protection. Additionally, the Local Police will verify the legality of the apartments, having suspicions that some have been illegally converted into Airbnbs. The new rates will come into effect within 60 days, and rental contracts will be valid for two years, with the possibility of extension. Rents for social housing will not exceed 10% of the family's net monthly income.
