Ciprian Șerban, the Minister of Transport, stated that the takeover of the Giurgiulești Free International Port by the Port of Constanța is a crucial decision for Romania and the Black Sea region. Giurgiulești, the only maritime-fluvial port of the Republic of Moldova, represents an essential node at the intersection of the Danube with the Black Sea. Its integration into the strategy of the Port of Constanța will strengthen the Danube-Black Sea logistics corridor, optimizing trade flows and supporting the reconstruction of Ukraine through alternative routes. Șerban emphasizes that Romania is taking an active role in the development of strategic infrastructure in the vicinity, considering the current geopolitical context.
The Port of Constanța has demonstrated the capacity to manage large volumes and implement significant investments, and extending this model to Giurgiulești will bring modernization and sustainable development, respecting the legislation of the Republic of Moldova.
"The Port of Constanța will take over the Giurgiulești Free International Port, following the completion of the process initiated by the EBRD to identify a strategic investor. This is a decision of major relevance for Romania and for the entire Black Sea region. Giurgiulești is the only maritime-fluvial port of the Republic of Moldova and an essential node at the intersection of the Danube with the Black Sea space," announced on Friday, the Minister of Transport, Ciprian Șerban.
