Interim Transport Minister Radu Miruță says there is no decision at CFR Infrastructură, Carpatica Feroviar or the Port of Constanța that favors trains carrying grain from other countries over Romanian ones. He made the statement following farmers’ complaints about the obstacles encountered in transporting and exporting grain.
In September, 300 train formations arrived at the Port of Constanța, 49 of them carrying grain from Ukraine, accounting for 16.3% of the total. According to the minister, the railway infrastructure is not saturated and still allows traffic to increase by approximately 20%.
Miruță announced a ministerial order, which will be subject to decision-making transparency, for the coordinated scheduling of loading and unloading operations. The port would be expected to provide information about ships in advance, while rail and road operators would plan their transport accordingly. The measures also target reducing the time required to issue port approvals and sanctioning those who fail to comply with the rules.
The minister says the main problem is coordination, not a lack of capacity. Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister Tanczos Barna says the road, rail and port infrastructure cannot be doubled, given the large volume of Ukrainian grain and the low level of the Danube.
