The Constanța Court of Appeal has decided that the suspended mayor of Mangalia, Cristian Radu, will remain in preventive detention for another 30 days, rejecting his appeal. Radu has been sent to trial by the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) for several offenses, including bribery and money laundering, being accused of receiving over 600,000 euros between 2022 and 2025 for issuing urban planning documents and initiating local council resolutions favorable to certain individuals.
Prosecutors are seeking the confiscation of over two million lei from Radu, an amount considered to have been obtained illegally. He was placed in preventive detention at the end of August, and the next day he was suspended from his position as mayor.
