Approximately 60 steelworkers from Liberty Galați protested on Tuesday in front of the Galați Prefecture, claiming unpaid salaries for the months of May and June, the lack of meal vouchers, and uncertainty regarding the future of the unit.
Prefect George Toderaș discussed with the protesters, who are concerned that the second auction to find an investor has failed. Unpaid salaries and meal vouchers from August 2025 are the main grievances, and employees who have not been on technical unemployment are moving to a reduced workweek regime.
Additionally, the resumption of production remains uncertain, as no investor showed up at the auction on June 19, despite the decrease in the starting price. CITR director Paul Dieter Cîrlănu mentioned that the next steps could include organizing a new auction or direct negotiations, but the company remains in concordat and without activity.
