The municipalities of Socond and Beltiug in Satu Mare County will merge, functioning as a single administrative-territorial unit.

The Socond commune and the Beltiug commune in Satu Mare will be merged, creating a new administrative-territorial unit with a single local council, a mayor, and a deputy mayor. The announcement was made by the president of PNL Satu Mare, Adrian Cozma, during a press conference attended by the mayors of both localities, who supported the initiative.

Cozma emphasized that this unification represents a concrete step in the administrative-territorial reorganization, aimed at increasing the efficiency of public administration, reducing expenses, and enhancing development capacity. The new commune will become the second largest in Satu Mare County, after Târgu, and the unification could be effective starting in 2028. This initiative could serve as a model for other administrative-territorial units.
