The Senate adopted on Tuesday a bill that establishes a maximum navigation speed of 5 kilometers per hour in the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve, in order to protect the fragile ecosystem of the area. The project, which amends Law 82/1993, provides for fines ranging from 250 lei to 700 lei for individuals and from 500 lei to 1,000 lei for legal entities in case of exceeding the speed limit.

Exceptions are made for certain areas, such as the Danube branches and permitted docking points. Additionally, violations will not lead to the confiscation of fishing tools or vessels. The government will have 30 days to adapt the access and navigation rules on the internal channels of the Reserve. The project will now be sent to the Chamber of Deputies, which has decision-making authority.
