The Romanian Senate experienced a significant IT blockage, leaving the institution without access to the internet and the official website.
A report from the National Cyber Security Directorate (DNSC) highlighted that the incident was caused by weak passwords, insecure computers, and the lack of data transmission to the government cloud. These administrative deficiencies paralyzed the current activities of employees and senators.
The government reacted by intensifying cyber security controls in all public institutions, emphasizing the importance of information protection. An official document is expected to be presented during the meeting of the Political Bureau in Parliament to analyze the next steps.
The incident at the Senate adds to a series of cyber attacks targeting public institutions, including the National Agency for Cadastre and Real Estate Advertising (ANCPI).
