The police of the Cybercrime Fighting Service, together with DIICOT prosecutors, have deactivated 13 servers of a cybercrime group, following a European Investigation Order issued by the authorities in France.
The group was being investigated for forming an organized criminal group and other cybercrimes, including illegal access to computer systems and extortion. According to the Romanian Police, the group members used a virtual private network (VPN) service to hide their identity and carry out illegal activities. This service was promoted on forums frequented by cybercriminals, with the sole purpose of facilitating crime.
The action was coordinated by Eurojust and supported by Europol, involving several countries, including France, the Netherlands, Romania, and Ukraine, where a person under investigation was heard. The deactivation of the servers and the blocking of client accounts were carried out simultaneously as part of this international action.
