In a message addressed to the press, the Romanian community in the Odesa region has issued an open letter regarding the appointment of the new consul general of Romania. They accuse the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) of making the appointment without considering the needs of the local community. Representatives of the community emphasize the importance of maintaining an authentic dialogue between the Romanian state and Romanians outside the borders, especially in the context of current security challenges. They also highlight their appreciation for the work of the interim consul general, Claudiu Tătaru, who has demonstrated professionalism and strengthened the connection with the community. The change in leadership is perceived as a possible disruption of the progress made, and the community is calling for a careful assessment of the impact of this decision. Finally, they express the desire to integrate the voice of the community into relevant decision-making processes.
