Police in Satu Mare confiscated over 500,000 euros in counterfeit banknotes following an operation carried out at the end of the week. Two men, aged 43 and 44 from Oradea, were caught in the act on Sunday while attempting to sell 99,500 euros in counterfeit 500 euro banknotes and 1,000 fake Swiss francs.

Following the checks, the police discovered an additional 404,000 euros in counterfeit banknotes in the car of one of the suspects, bringing the total to 503,500 euros and 1,000 counterfeit Swiss francs.

Under the coordination of the prosecutor from the Satu Mare Court, three searches were conducted in Oradea. The two men were detained for 24 hours and are to be presented to the court with a proposal for preventive arrest. The investigation continues to establish all the circumstances of the crime of circulating counterfeit values.
