Owners of buildings constructed without authorization have one year to apply for their legalization, according to the new Territorial Planning Code.

The new Code of Territorial Planning, Urbanism and Constructions (CATUC) provides a transitional period of a maximum of one year for owners of buildings constructed without authorization or in violation of it, to request legalization.

The Minister of Development, Cseke Attila, announced that after the expiration of this term, regularization will only be possible under certain conditions, and local authorities will be able to initiate demolition procedures. The regularization authorization will not be automatic and will require compliance with urban planning regulations and quality requirements.

After one year, regularization will only be allowed for certain types of buildings, such as single-family homes and household annexes. Additionally, the costs for regularization will be significantly higher during the transitional period, and the tax on unauthorized buildings will be increased by 100%.

Local authorities will be able to demolish unlegalized buildings after the deadline, and the expenses will be recovered from the owners. Compliance with authorization procedures remains essential for the safety of buildings.
