The Netherlands remains the top choice for Romanians' studies abroad

The Netherlands remains the main study destination for Romanian young people in 2026, according to IntegralEdu data, while Italy, Ireland and France have recorded increases of more than 100% in their popularity. Choices are becoming increasingly diverse and depend on each student’s academic profile, skills and career goals.

In terms of fields of study, Computer Science ranks first, followed by Electrical Engineering, Global Law/Law and Aerospace Engineering. International Business, which topped the 2025 ranking, has dropped to fifth place. The list also includes architecture, tourism and hospitality, as well as Data Science.

In the ranking of initial preferences, the Netherlands is followed by the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany and Spain. For final enrolments, the Netherlands leads, followed by Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and France.

IntegralEdu representatives say that young people are gradually moving from choosing a “preferred country” to identifying a destination suited to their plans. Academic offerings, English-language programmes, costs and career prospects are playing an increasingly important role in the decision.

Educational camps have also gained popularity, with enrolments increasing by 17%. These programmes allow teenagers to explore fields of interest before choosing a university.
