The National Environmental Guard has issued a serious warning regarding a 'major accident hazard' in Satu Mare, where thousands of tons of calcium ammonium nitrate have been identified stored in inappropriate conditions. General Commissioner Andrei Corlan announced that fines totaling 200,000 lei have been applied and that firefighters have been notified to prevent possible accidents. The Guard emphasizes that the storage of these dangerous substances, near flammable materials, poses a recipe for tragedy.
Following the discoveries, the Guard will initiate inspections throughout the country to verify how operators comply with the storage and handling regulations of hazardous substances. Additionally, the suspension of environmental permits for the involved companies is proposed, considering the major risks associated with the improper storage of ammonium nitrate.
