The President of the Timiș County Council, Alfred Simonis, announced that municipalities that will close gambling halls will receive funds for the construction of new schools or kindergartens, or for the modernization of existing ones. This decision comes after the adoption of a law that prohibits gambling in localities with fewer than 15,000 inhabitants. Simonis emphasized that this is a direct appeal to mayors, considering the negative impact of this phenomenon on families. In Timișoara, most gambling halls are located near schools, and Mayor Dominic Fritz stated that he wants to move them to industrial areas to protect children. Additionally, the recently adopted emergency ordinance allows municipalities to decide on the prohibition of these activities. Mayors from the cities of Slatina and Drăgășani have already announced their intention to eliminate gambling halls from their localities, emphasizing the importance of protecting youth and promoting beneficial local businesses.
