The Minister of the Environment, Diana Buzoianu, announced that in November, 655 inspections were carried out at gravel pits, a considerably higher number compared to the inspections in the first six months of the year, when only 115 inspections were conducted. This intensification of inspections was prompted by a report from the ministry's control body, which highlighted the lack of activity of inspectors from Apele Române.
As a result of these inspections, fines equivalent to those issued throughout the previous year were imposed, and 8 criminal complaints were filed. Buzoianu emphasized the importance of these inspections in preventing illegal activities that severely affect the environment, causing bank erosion and geomorphological instability. These practices have a negative impact on water quality and biodiversity, endangering the infrastructure near watercourses.
