The Minister of Education, Daniel David, reacted to the results of a study showing that 6% of Romanian students have used drugs, while 81% have consumed alcohol.
In light of this data, he proposed strengthening educational programs to prevent substance use, focusing on concrete and impactful actions, not just awareness campaigns.
Among the announced measures are the integration of topics related to combating violence and drug use in orientation and counseling classes, as well as in new subjects for high school.
Additionally, there will be collaboration with local authorities and civil society organizations to implement intervention programs.
The study, conducted in 2024 in 37 European countries, included 8,543 students from Romania and highlights a stabilization in alcohol and tobacco use, but also an increase in online gambling practices.
Daniel David emphasized the urgency of these measures to combat substance use among young people.
