The mayor of the municipality of Brăila, Marian Dragomir, announced that he will propose to the Local Council the prohibition of gambling halls. "I was elected to make decisions in the interest of the majority, not for interest groups," he stated.
The initiative comes as a result of recent legislative changes that require operators to obtain authorizations from municipalities, alongside national licenses.
Dragomir emphasizes that he takes this decision to protect the interests of the majority of citizens, not those of interest groups. The mayor also criticized governments that have supported the gambling industry, mentioning the negative effects on families and the community. He stated that his action is motivated by the desire to protect the dignity of the city and to prevent the destruction of lives due to gambling addiction.
Recently, the Municipality of Drăgășani also announced the prohibition of gambling halls, inspired by the model applied in Slatina, to protect children and support local businesses.
