The judges of the supreme court decided on Wednesday to replace preventive detention with house arrest in the case of the mercenary Horațiu Potra. This decision comes after the High Court revoked the measure of judicial control for his son and grandson, Dorian and Alexandru Potra, who had been under judicial control since April 2, after a period of five months of preventive detention.

The three were brought under escort from Dubai in November 2025, where they had taken refuge to avoid serious charges of destabilizing Romania. Horațiu Potra is being tried for attempted actions against the constitutional order, violation of the arms regime, and public incitement, along with 20 other mercenaries.

Prosecutors claim that Potra and his group planned to infiltrate the protests following the annulment of the December 2024 elections to create chaos, with the plan being coordinated by Călin Georgescu. The trial is currently in the preliminary chamber phase.
