The High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ) has requested an expertise from an authorized accountant to analyze the law proposed by the Bolojan Government, which suggests cutting the service pensions of magistrates. The results of the expertise confirm that the application of the new law would lead to the total cancellation of the service pension, significantly affecting the incomes of magistrates. For example, judges from courts and prosecutor's offices would have pensions 36% lower, while those from the ICCJ would have 51% less. The ICCJ will submit additional notes to the Constitutional Court, arguing that the law violates the acquired rights of magistrates and constitutes a confiscation of these rights. The court emphasizes that the independence of justice cannot be compromised by arbitrary financial measures and that the elimination of constitutional guarantees is not justified. On Friday, the Constitutional Court will discuss this law, following the scandal from the previous year.
