On Monday, the tram traffic in Timișoara was severely affected by the heatwave, as the temperature at rail level exceeded 60 degrees Celsius. The mastic used for sealing between the tram line and asphalt melted, sticking to the wheels of the trains.

Under these conditions, the Timișoara Public Transport Service (STPT) announced traffic restrictions, at least until Wednesday afternoon, to ensure the safety of passengers. STPT representatives explained that the mastic, being extremely adhesive, endangers the tram traffic. Over 40 employees are intervening to clean the track, and out of the 36 scheduled trams, only 21 were able to operate. The most affected sections are Bulevardul General Ion Dragalina – Gara de Nord and Piața 700 – Gara de Est.

During the restrictions, certain lines will operate on alternative routes, and the section Gara de Est – Meteo will be served by buses and minibuses. Timiș County is under a red heatwave alert, with rain expected on Wednesday.
