The Romanian government has decided to extend until September 30, 2026, the period during which Transelectrica can apply special measures to protect the National Electric Power System. This decision comes in response to the severe hydrological deficit on the Danube, the high temperatures forecasted, and the increase in electricity consumption during peak hours.

Among the measures provided are the reduction of energy exports and, only as a last resort, the limitation of consumption in stages. Authorities emphasize that the measures are preventive and that it is unlikely they will be necessary. The main vulnerability identified is the production deficit, especially between the hours of 6:00 PM and 10:00 PM, when consumption remains high, and solar energy production decreases. Transelectrica will decide on the implementation of the measures, informing the competent authorities at least 24 hours in advance. The extension of the measures ensures a framework for intervention in case the conditions in the energy system require it.
