New military firefighters from ISU Bihor left on Saturday for the Republic of Serbia to assist in extinguishing forest fires affecting several areas of the country. They will carry out specific activities for 10 days, alongside Romanian forces and intervention teams from Serbia.
The firefighters, two officers and seven non-commissioned officers, met in Timișoara with the other intervention teams from Romania's ground module. Romania has mobilized a specialized module consisting of 69 people and 15 technical means, including a Black Hawk S-70M helicopter, which will ensure aerial intervention. The fires particularly affect the Deliblato Sands Natural Reserve area, where the flames have engulfed over 3,500 hectares.
Romania's support was requested by Serbian authorities through the European Union's Civil Protection Mechanism, and the National Committee for Emergency Situations approved international assistance.
